Material Properties Testing of ITER First Wall Components

Investigators: Kevin Leedy, Michael R. James, Min Jie, Jay Collins

This effort is a part of the ITER design phase for choosing the proper first wall materials and bonding techniques. Under consideration for these first-wall materials are various stainless steel/copper alloy bilayer laminates. Shear, bending fatigue, crack growth and fracture toughness tests are being performed under contract with McDonnell Douglas to determine the optimal materials for the first wall structure.
